MacOS X Ship Date?

ZDNet News reports that Apple is expected to release MacOS X, not at January's San Fran Macworld Expo, but at the end of the Macworld Expo in Tokyo, on Feb. 24. This date is expected to be confirmed at the San Fran expo, however. Apparently, not too long after the official launch of OS X, Apple will release "Orient," an update to OS X that should iron out any significant remaining issues with the OS after the OS goes gold master.

I'm definitely liking the the increasing number of OS X-specific (and Carbon--they're nice too...) apps I'm seeing coming out day after day, in the current, beta period. Hopefully there'll be some noticeable speed tweaks in the first public release. I hear this is to be expected...not that I'm complaining about OS X's speed. But on my 256MB b&w G3 400, it could be a touch more responsive. (I think SCSI drivers from Initio, when they finally come available, will go a long way towards curing that ill.)
