Apple has posted a job description for a Handwriting Recognition Engineer on August 11th, 2005.
Are you passionate about providing handwriting solutions to end customers? Do you strongly believe that using a stylus and a tablet is the way to interact with computers?
The position will be in Apple's Handwriting Recognition team, presumably the one responsible for Mac OS X's Inkwell technology. The Inkwell technology was based on handwriting technology developed in-house by Apple for the Newton handheld computer in the 90s. At the time, it was widely considered to be the best handwriting solution available.
While Apple has not made much use of the Inkwell technology in Mac OS X, there have been ongoing rumors of Apple planning on offering an Apple Tablet.
Apple has unveiled a whopping nine new products so far this March, including an iPhone 17e, iPad Air models with the M4 chip, MacBook Air models with the M5 chip, MacBook Pro models with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, the all-new MacBook Neo, an updated Studio Display, a higher-end Studio Display XDR, AirPods Max 2, and now the Nike Powerbeats Pro 2.
