Kanex Launches New Portable Docking Station for iPad Pro

by

Kanex today announced the launch of its iAdapt Multiport Docking Station for the 2018 iPad Pro models, designed to add a range of additional ports to the devices using the built-in USB-C port.

The iAdapt Multiport Docking Station includes a USB-C Power Delivery port for charging your iPad, an SD card slot, a microSD card slot, a USB-A port, an HDMI 4K port, and a 3.5mm audio jack for use with headphones.

With the iAdapt Docking Station, the ‌iPad Pro‌ can access photos on SD and microSD cards and in iOS 13, can read files from external drives through the USB-A port.

The iAdapt plugs into the USB-C port on the ‌iPad‌, and rests at the back of the device when in landscape mode, adding a minimal amount of additional bulk. It's also portable and works with the Smart Keyboard Cover. Because of the way it fits, it may not be compatible with other cases.

The iAdapt Multiport Docking Station can be pre-ordered from B&H Photo starting today for $99.95, and it will be available from Kanex later in the month.

I’m curious to know if with iOS 13, one can use a hub like this to transfer photos from an SD card to an external SSD like the Samsung T5. Or would it only recognize one device at once?

From the Indigogo page:

Note

Due to the limitation of iOS system, only images in .jpg and .gif format and videos in .mp4 format can be imported to iPad Pro from flash drive or SD/TF card through BoltHub.

iOS system can only read images and videos saved in a folder and named in a certain format. For instance, iOS system can read camera folders named as 100CANON or 100APPLE. If not, please rename the files and folders on your computer as they can not be edited on iPad Pro:

Navigate to the root directory of the flash drive and create a folder named “DCIM”;

Under “DCIM”, create another camera folder named “100CANON”, “100APPLE” or alike;

In the camera folder, make sure to rename the images and videos using 3 digits of letters and 5 digits of numbers, such as “abc12345.jpg”. Please also make sure that the format of the images is .jpg or .gif and the video is .mp4.

BoltHub is compatible with file system of FAT32, not NTFS stored in the flash drive or the SD/TF card.

Flash drive, SD and TF card cannot be read simultaneously when plugged in BoltHub. Only one can be read at a time, on the first-in-first-read principle.

Images and videos can only be browsed after being imported to the album on iPad Pro.
None of that is definitely true of iPadOS. In fact iPadOS changes pretty much everything that blurb refers to.

Same here. It would great if I could plug in my SDXC card from my camera and transfer the raw photos to an external and then work off of that. That would eliminate having to carry around a laptop for quick shoots.
