I have a Move and I can definitely endorse it as a GREAT portable speaker that works fine with Airplay 2. It has really great sound for such a small cylinder. I think of it like a super HomePod (original) except it is broadly compatible with all kinds of music sources (Spotify, Tunein, Pandora, their own channels, Deezer, SiriusXM, Apple Music, Tidal, iHeartRadio and MANY more- they have the whole list on their website)... and has a battery, making it wireless/mobile too.

I also have an ARC soundbar that I use solely for music (yes a bit overkill for only that use) via Airplay 2 (and any of those many music streamers) and it sounds fantastic too.

I typically use ARC + Move in the same room most of the time, though obviously Move is the easy one to lift out of its 'stand' and take anywhere else.

I don't work for Sonos nor have any affiliation with them- just an Apple guy who can appreciate great stuff from companies other that our favorite one too. Sonos is great- and singularly focused- on quality audio hardware... and they have "just works" for their space down.

While the vast majority of time, I'm streaming music to them via Airplay, their own Sonos app is pretty great too. I keep it right next to the Music app in the dock of my iDevices, giving it one of those 6 or 8+ spots available down there. There's also a dedicated macOS app.

The Move is even more expensive the original HomePod was. Yet the HomePod was generally viewed as overpriced.

Honestly, I can’t see Apple re-entering the market with a HomePod 2 at a price anything lower than $399.

Is Sonos still a power hog? I remember when I was thinking about buying a new sound setup for my home and one Sonos speaker was wasting as much power in standby as all of my Philips hue lights on full brightness together.
You're measuring or doing something wrong. Each Sonos consumes a few watts at idle ('https://support.sonos.com/s/article/256?language=en_US'), which is less than a typical household E26 LED. My power meter confirms the same thing.

Each speaker contains a multi-core SoC and networking hardware to form a wireless mesh network. It's basically a mini computer. An entire 5.1 system consumes 17W at idle. I think you'll survive.

We have Sonos at work. It randomly disconnects speakers pretty much every day. The app randomly stops playing music sometimes. Not a fan. Do not recommend.
And because Sonos is a wi-fi speaker system. 99.9% of the problems people have is due to their wi-fi network. Mine runs like an absolute champ.

Like my ARC w/ Ones & my older Playbar w/3's but looking to replace the 3's, so need a rec. for them but non-portable por favor.
Depends on your use-case and the physical volume you want to fill. The One is the standard go-to speaker. The Ikea Symfonisk is a lower priced alternative. A pair of Symfonisk set for stereo is probably the best value, compared to a single unit like the Five. Neither Symfonisk nor Fives have microphones to use voice, so that's a consideration as well.

I love my Roam great little portable Bluetooth+WiFi speaker, just not load enough compared to the “+” company’s alternatives.

Better deals throughout the year with BestBuy and other larger retailers though.

Apple really needs to get in on the speaker ecosystem, that HomePod OG was seriously awesome sound quality! Should Apple really be serious - and go head to head with Sonos … I could see them working or partnering for car speakers (as does Sonos with 1 contract). This would be a HUGE revenue for Apple.

Dang, I waited too long. No longer for sale as of June 20.
I guess it was almost 2 weeks ago. Maybe they'll have another one soon.
