Second iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia Betas Coming Monday With iPhone Mirroring and SharePlay Screen Sharing

Apple plans to release the second beta of iOS 18 to developers on Monday, Apple spokesperson Fred Sainz told The Verge. The information was provided as part of a statement on certain new iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia features that will be delayed in the European Union.

Generic iOS 18 Feature Real Mock
Two of the features that will not be coming to the EU this fall are set to debut in next week's iOS 18 developer beta, with Apple introducing support for iPhone Mirroring in macOS Sequoia and expanded SharePlay screen sharing across iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia.

‌iPhone‌ Mirroring allows an ‌iPhone‌ to be controlled via a Mac, with full functionality for accessing apps, interacting with notifications, and more. SharePlay screen sharing will let Apple users take over the screen of another Apple user to provide technical support and other help.

Neither of these options are available in the current iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia betas, as Apple is rolling out features during the beta testing period. Apple Intelligence, which also won't be coming in the European Union, is set to come out later this summer. Apple will likely time it to the public beta, which is coming in July.

Apple says that it needs to delay some features in the European Union because of the complexities of making sure they adhere to the regulations mandated in the Digital Markets Act.

I still don't understand fundamentally why the EU is governing how Apple should run their business. If people want Android features that gives you more features and customization, they can, when looking to buy a phone and weighing up the pros and cons of each device according to their needs, buy an Android. If they want a polished ecosystem, they can buy an iOS device...? Each platform has their own strength points, and the beauty of choice is that people can choose.

That being said, for me personally, I'm happy that iPhone now uses USB-C, but that should've been a change that Apple made. If people were truly pissed off with iPhones (including their stubbornness with lightning and lack of side loading), people would switch and that would push Apple organically to adapt their phones.

I have lost all interest in iOS 18 as long as the most valuable company in the world is unable to design its services to comply with the regulations of the democratic countries in which it operates and instead blackmails governments by instrumentalizing consumers/their citizens against them.

What’s the use case for iPhone mirroring? Why would someone want to control their iphone through Mac? Automated testing for app developers?
So I don’t have to touch my phone while I am using the computer?

You know, iOS is not a gift to the world. It's a product they're trying to make money with.
If they don't try hard enough, then Android deserves to win.
