Apple's Privacy Team Does Deep Dive Into iOS 18 Privacy Features

Apple's User Privacy Engineering Manager Katie Skinner and Privacy Product Marketing Lead Sandy Parakilas recently sat down with YouTuber Andru Edwards for a wide-ranging discussion on Apple's privacy policies.

Topics covered include Apple's approach to privacy, the ways Apple contends with privacy laws in different countries, and how Apple deals with government requests, plus there's a good deal of information on the new features in iOS 18.

Some of what's discussed covers privacy information that Apple has reiterated over and over again, but there are some interesting tidbits on Apple's adoption of ChatGPT, Maps privacy, the Passwords app, and accessory pairing in iOS 18.

It's a long discussion at almost 45 minutes, but worth it for those who want a bit more insight into Apple's philosophy on privacy.

Tuesday October 20, 2026 11:12 am PDT by
With just three days to go until the iPhone Duo is released, Apple is getting ready for the launch. Behind the scenes, the App Store now has screenshots of Apple's built-in apps running on the Duo. We've seen some apps in marketing materials, but images of the ones we haven't seen give us an idea of what it will be like using the iPhone Duo day to day. Many apps are shown in landscape...

Apple Pulls Keynote, Pages and Numbers From App Store [Update: Back]

Thursday October 22, 2026 11:01 am PDT by
Apple has temporarily removed Keynote, Pages, and Numbers from the App Store, just after releasing an update that added iPhone Duo support and a new Intelligent Assistant. It is not clear if the apps were removed intentionally, or if it is a bug. Apple has not said when the apps will be reinstated, but if it was in error, they should return soon. Update: The Mac versions are back without...

RIP, MacBook Ultra

Monday October 19, 2026 9:37 am PDT by
Apple today sent out invites for an experience in Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 28, and the "Pro and tell" tagline on the invitation likely means that the rumored MacBook models with touch-enabled OLED displays will stick with MacBook Pro branding instead of the once-rumored "MacBook Ultra" name. The long-rumored "iPhone Ultra" ended up being named iPhone Duo, so speculation that Apple...

If you bother to watch the video, you will quickly see, that the Apple employees don’t actually answer a lot (if not most) of the questions asked.

i'll never understand this. installing almost any ad blocker will show you just how many known tracking servers your apps are contacting. maybe safari blocks them but let's face it, that's much less than half the battle now.

i mean heck, almost every app's "privacy label" shows that so much of your data is collected and linked to you. so how exactly is apple/iphone promoting your privacy?

Contrary to the title it's a shallow dip and not a deep dive.

Bragging about privacy when putting chatgpt on your devices is a joke.
I guess if you actually looked at how it is being implemented, and watched the video, you would understand that every single time you use ChatGPT, you have to physically press the OK button to allow ChatGPT to steal, I mean harvest, I mean use your data. There are 4 points to privacy and security and knowing when and allowing data to be used is one of them. They have been 100% transparent. But saying or acknowledging that doesn’t suit the agenda of people who refuse to do the research.

All PR spin to counter their move to use AI. Everybody knows Apple collects your data (and uses it for their own purposes) but they also allow apps to collect data. Of course Apple aren't the bad guys though because they allow you to "turn it off" through privacy settings. So wholesome. Thank you for protecting us, Tim!
So you haven’t watched it then?
