I wouldn’t say a rechargeable battery is a want of mine, but if the battery life was just as long and it was rechargeable, I would call that a plus.

The reason why I say it will be rechargeable is because disposable batteries are an environmental disaster. They go straight to the landfill and yeah, that’s just not great.
Easily user-removable batteries can help prevent otherwise good products from ending up as e-waste.

In my above example, earlier this week I bought a second-hand Apple Wireless Keyboard from 2011 and put two (rechargeable) AA batteries in it.

I also have another Apple Wireless Keyboard from 2009 I bought second-hand a few months ago that now has two rechargeable AA batteries in it as well.

And that’s great. I was able to buy these old products that still functioned perfectly-fine after quickly popping-in a standard battery type that can be found in countless stores all around the world.

Good luck getting the battery replaced on a 13/15 year old keyboard if it has an old, inaccessible, proprietary battery.

What’s not anymore? I can’t see anything AirTag 2 could have that wouldn’t make me want to upgrade. Is it going to have faster tracking or maybe smaller? Maybe a rechargeable battery but changing a coin cell once a year doesn’t bother me.
One minor improvement would be to improve the battery contacts, so you don't have to avoid the baby-proofed batteries. It's a small annoyance because I can't always find the right ones at the store, so I have to order and stock them. I'm currently using three of these for myself, plus three for my family members, and I could probably use more; so battery management is more than zero annoying.

The real downside to buying from anywhere but Apple for AirTags is that you don't get free engraving.

I actually really love my AirTags being engraved... But, $70 is definitely a good price.

Being able to quickly key emphasis on quickly and reliable sound these from preferably more than 10’ away would make the next gen a major improvement. Also if I park my car in the street and leave a backpack in my car would be super nice if my neighbors weren’t getting alerted to possible stalker outside.

This must be AirTag insider lingo: „Being able to quickly key emphasis on quickly and reliable sound these from preferably more than 10’ away“
