Apple plans to bring the puzzles section of its News app to the United Kingdom, according to a new report from the Financial Times.
Currently available in the US and Canada, and exclusive to Apple News+ subscribers, the puzzles section includes four games: Sudoku, Crossword, Crossword Mini, and Quartiles.
Apple News+ provides subscribers with a new crossword and mini crossword puzzle every day. Crossword puzzles start off easy and become progressively more challenging throughout the week. For users seeking a quick and simple challenge, the always-easy mini crossword puzzle is an alternative choice.
Meanwhile, Sudoku offers easy, moderate, and challenging difficulty levels to users, while a scoreboard tracks player stats, including the total number of puzzles solved, fastest completion times per difficulty level, and more.
As for Quartiles, the puzzle challenges players to combine tiles to create words and score points. Each puzzle begins with a grid of 20 tiles, allowing users to form words using one to four tiles. A "quartile" is a word made with four tiles, and discovering all five quartiles in a puzzle earns players a 40-point bonus.
The rollout of the puzzles section in the UK is said to be part of a wider expansion of Apple News+ that includes building its locally focused news coverage. Apple News+ costs £12.99 per month after a free trial, and the service is also included in the Apple One Premier subscription bundle.
