8 New Things Your iPhone Can Do in iOS 18.5

Apple has released iOS 18.5, bringing further refinements to its iPhone operating system. The point update introduces several noteworthy enhancements, particularly for iPhone 13 users and parents who use Screen Time.

Heres a quick rundown covering eight new capabilities your iPhone gains with this latest update from Apple. If you haven't updated your device yet, go to Settings ➝ General ➝ Software Update, then tap Update Now.

Access Satellite Messaging on iPhone 13

iPhone 13 models now support carrier-provided satellite connectivity. For instance, T-Mobile users in the U.S. can use the Starlink-powered service to send and receive messages when cellular and Wi-Fi connections are unavailable. Note that this feature requires a compatible carrier plan and does not include Apple's Emergency SOS, which remains exclusive to iPhone 14 and newer models.

Receive Screen Time Passcode Alerts

Parents will now get notifications whenever the Screen Time passcode is entered on a child's device. This enhancement helps you monitor your child's device usage and prevents them from quietly bypassing Screen Time if they know or guess the Screen Time passcode.

Enjoy the New Pride Harmony Wallpaper

A new Pride Harmony wallpaper has been added, featuring vibrant, thick stripes that shift position as you interact with your iPhone. The design complements the latest Apple Watch Pride face and band, celebrating diversity and inclusion.

Make Purchases in Apple TV App Using iPhone on Third-Party Devices

The "Buy with iPhone" feature is now available when purchasing content within the Apple TV app on third-party devices like smart TVs. The change should streamline the purchasing process by allowing authentication through your iPhone.

Toggle Mail App Settings More Easily

In the Mail app, you can now quickly toggle contact photos and the "Group by Sender" option directly from the app interface by tapping the three-dot menu in the upper right corner. Previously, these settings were only accessible through the Settings app.

View Enhanced AppleCare and Warranty Information

The Settings app now displays a prominent AppleCare banner under General ➝ AppleCare & Warranty. Tapping on your device in the Apple Account ➝ Devices list also reveals detailed AppleCare coverage information and options to manage your plan.

Experience Improved Vision Pro App Stability

A bug causing the Apple Vision Pro app to display a black screen has been resolved, ensuring a more stable experience for users interacting with Vision Pro content on their iPhones.

Benefit from Enhanced Security Measures

iOS 18.5 addresses over 30 security vulnerabilities, including the first identified flaw in the Apple-designed C1 modem found in the iPhone 16e. The update also fixes issues that could allow malicious images or videos to crash apps, spoof user interfaces through email processing, and access sensitive data via Bluetooth.
