Will the iPhone Air 2 Launch This Year? The Latest Report Says No

A second-generation iPhone Air is "not expected this year," according to a Nikkei Asia report today that cites people familiar with Apple's supply chain.

The report said Apple plans to release an iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and foldable iPhone later this year, followed by the base model iPhone 18 in the first half of next year. The report said Apple does have a revamped iPhone Air in the pipeline, but the publication does not expect it to launch until at least 2027.

While one leaker on the Chinese social media platform Weibo has insisted that the iPhone Air will receive a spec bump this year, most reports from sources such as Bloomberg and The Information have pointed to an early 2027 launch. If so, the iPhone Air 2 would likely be released alongside the base model iPhone 18.

Last year, The Information reported that Apple was aiming to add a second rear camera to the next iPhone Air. That report added that the next iPhone Air could weigh less, have a larger battery capacity, and gain a vapor chamber cooling system like the iPhone 17 Pro models have. And Bloomberg expects the device to have a 2nm chip.

While several reports indicated that the iPhone Air has been in low demand, the extreme popularity of the iPhone 17 base model and the iPhone 17 Pro models led iPhone revenue to a new all-time high last quarter, according to Apple.

The iPhone air is the best phone ever made and I think they should consider doubling down on it.

I also own a 17 pro and the air's bigger screen and it's much lighter feel and comfort in the hand makes the air the clear winner.

I take a lot of photos and the air's single camera is more than enough.

Why do you have a 17 pro then?

I swapped my 17 Pro Max for the 17 Pro, and then sold my 17 Pro and brought the Air! The Air is truly amazing and I want Apple to go all in on it. Don’t let this be another “mini” and “Plus” that fails 😭

When will Apple understand that users only care about thinness when it doesn't mean excessive compromises on other aspects such as battery life, heat management, product features, and so on, which it always does.

Users just don't care that much about products being thinner, whether it's laptops, phones, or tablets.

"Thinner" is nice to have, it's not a feature for which I'll pay extra or am willing to accept significant drawbacks in other areas.
I thought the Air was a silly, stupid flex until I tried one out in the store. I took a chance and bought it, and now I'm a complete convert after several months of use.

The Air is extremely durable (I've dropped mine on my porcelain-tile floor at home repeatedly without damage) and has reasonable battery life (better than the battery life of earlier generation Pro versions). The compromises--single speaker and single lens camera--were ones I was comfortable with.

It's not for everybody, and it's probably too expensive for what you get (as is often the case with a first-gen proof-of-concept device). But it's a surprisingly great phone.

I need two phones and two phone lines.
Why didn’t you get a second air ? Or just another sim into your air if it’s so nice and best ?
