This is why it’s awesome they bumped up the specs on the base model to 16/512. For a lot of people (IMO), you can now bargain hunt the base model instead of trying to find rarer discounts on models with RAM/storage upgrades.

It's times like these when you have to stop and truly appreciate how far this tech has come. The insane amount of computing power in this form factor, for under $1k USD (even after all of the runaway inflation AND supply chain crunches)...it's insanely great.

This is why I wouldn't buy directly from Apple anymore. Too many deals to be had elsewhere.

The M5 MacBook Air is an awesome machine with an awesome processor, and awesome display.

However, since I tried the MacBook Neo, I’m in love with the smaller form factor. Not with the trackpad, and definitely not with the SoC that powers it, but such a compact body is really nice.

I know it’s not possible or economically viable for Apple to put an M5 inside the Neo, and I know that’s not going to happen, but for me it would be the ideal machine.

Hopefully, once the Neo gets the A19 Pro, it will have a better balance between specs, size and price.
While the Neo is amazing for the price, the SSD speeds on the M5 are like 5X that of the Neo.

That makes a noticeable difference in the experience, for any type of user.

(to say nothing of all the other upgrades on even a base MBA M5 vs a Neo)

And they no longer seem to quietly (in person) match Authorized Retailer deals that are within 10% off (as these are).

I tried last week. Frustrating.
