Apple Releases Safari Technology Preview 248 With Bug Fixes and Performance Improvements

Apple today released a new update for Safari Technology Preview, the experimental browser that was first introduced in March 2016. Apple designed ‌Safari Technology Preview‌ to allow users to test features that are planned for future release versions of the Safari browser.

Safari Technology Preview Updated Feature 1
‌Safari Technology Preview‌ 248 includes fixes and updates for Accessibility, CSS, Editing, Forms, Images, JavaScript, Media, Navigation, Networking, Rendering, SVG, Scrolling, Security, Storage, Web API, Web Inspector, WebDriver, and WebRTC.

The current ‌Safari Technology Preview‌ release is compatible with machines running macOS Tahoe and macOS Golden Gate, the newest version of macOS.

The ‌Safari Technology Preview‌ update is available through the Software Update mechanism in System Preferences or System Settings to anyone who has downloaded the browser from Apple's website. Complete release notes for the update are available on the Safari Technology Preview website.

Apple's aim with ‌Safari Technology Preview‌ is to gather feedback from developers and users on its browser development process. ‌Safari Technology Preview‌ can run side-by-side with the existing Safari browser and while it is designed for developers, it does not require a developer account to download and use.

Here's What Apple's Apps Look Like on the iPhone Duo

Tuesday October 20, 2026 11:12 am PDT by
With just three days to go until the iPhone Duo is released, Apple is getting ready for the launch. Behind the scenes, the App Store now has screenshots of Apple's built-in apps running on the Duo. We've seen some apps in marketing materials, but images of the ones we haven't seen give us an idea of what it will be like using the iPhone Duo day to day. Many apps are shown in landscape...

Apple Pulls Keynote, Pages and Numbers From App Store [Update: Back]

Thursday October 22, 2026 11:01 am PDT by
Apple has temporarily removed Keynote, Pages, and Numbers from the App Store, just after releasing an update that added iPhone Duo support and a new Intelligent Assistant. It is not clear if the apps were removed intentionally, or if it is a bug. Apple has not said when the apps will be reinstated, but if it was in error, they should return soon. Update: The Mac versions are back without...

RIP, MacBook Ultra

Monday October 19, 2026 9:37 am PDT by
Apple today sent out invites for an experience in Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 28, and the "Pro and tell" tagline on the invitation likely means that the rumored MacBook models with touch-enabled OLED displays will stick with MacBook Pro branding instead of the once-rumored "MacBook Ultra" name. The long-rumored "iPhone Ultra" ended up being named iPhone Duo, so speculation that Apple...

The lack of innovation in Safari is ridiculous at this point.

I've been using Edge and Firefox on Windows and Mac since 2013 and I'd like to hear more about these innovations because I haven't seen them yet.
Firefox

Smart Window: An optional AI assistant providing fast page summaries, definitions, and product comparisons without page redirection.
Shake to Summarize: Mobile feature on iOS allowing users to physically shake their device or tap the address bar for quick text breakdowns.
Split View & Tab Notes: Side-by-side webpage multitasking and embedded note-taking directly onto individual browser tabs

Microsoft Edge

Resource Control: Sleeping tabs and efficiency mode to reduce RAM and CPU usage.
Vertical Tabs: Sidebar layout options for managing heavy tab loads.
Journeys: Automatically groups your past and current browsing activity into distinct topical projects so you can easily pick up where you left off.

Chrome is always innovating along with Zen, SigmaOS, Brave, Firefox, Edge, Comet, Opera, etc.

Still slower than Chrome, although the rendering quality is always top notch with Apple.

I'd like the rendering engine to be swapped out with Chromium. And evergreen updates.
Webkit rending engine is horrible but it provides cover for Apple to have the most basic browser.

What would you want to see in a future innovative version of Safari? I use Safari because it is simple and efficient, not innovative - I feel like the innovative part is handled pretty well by other browsers.
AI should be implemented in it. Advanced customizations, extensions like ublock orgin and cross-platform compatibility.
