New Entry-Level iPad Not Expected Until Early 2027

The iPad line up needs a rethink

Merge the Pro and the Air into a single line

Every iPad should come with a 120 Hz display, Apple could call it the Mandatory Motion at this point. There just is no excuse to not have it on every device.

There's very little benefit to going with the Air unless you need an M processor and don't want to spend as much on a Pro model. Otherwise the Air doesn't have much else going for it. It isn't any different size wise than the base model. It isn't thin like the iPhone Air. I've been wanting to move on from my 4th generation that still has an A line chip, but the current Air is basically the same as my 5 year old one aside from the processor.

4 models does feel very fragmented to me.

The Air feels really odd - I’d rather the mid-tier have an OLED display with an iPhone chip than an LCD display with a Mac chip. iPads are mostly a content creation + consumption tool… better display > better chip makes more sense to me.

If they could somehow bring the price of the Pro down, or add an OLED to the standard iPad, I think the Air will disappear entirely.

🍏 — now coming with a generous 2000MB of RAM! More RAM figure numbers than you’ve ever seen before… and we think you’re gonna love it!

The mini is really an Air, tier-wise. The iPad lineup is a 3x3 matrix with a nice symmetry on the main diagonal:

Tier	8”	11”	13”
Low	—	iPad	—
Mid	iPad mini	iPad Air	iPad Air
High	—	iPad Pro	iPad Pro
