Apple HomeView Won't Be Available in the European Union

homeview siri ai Apple's new HomeView smart home hub will not be available in the European Union because Siri AI is currently unavailable on iOS in the region, the company said today. Apple said it is "working constructively with the EU in an attempt to find a path forward," but provided no timeline for EU availability. It costs $299 in the U.S. and launches on November 13 in eight countries around the world.

I wouldn’t do business in the EU either; too much crap to deal with. Another reason why I’m so glad we in the UK left. While I don’t want this, it’s available to buy in the UK. RIP Europe.

as if this device save lives and a life changing… people in EU can live and go on with their lives without buying this.

Is this Apple's middle finger to the EU?

No, it’s Apple complying with the EU’s regulations.

The EU says Apple isn’t allowed to offer SiriAI on iOS devices unless Meta, OpenAI, and Grok are allowed to comb through Apple’s users’ most personal data. That is unacceptable to Apple so they don’t offer the feature. SiriAI on a compatible iOS device is required for HomeView to work, so the EU is out of luck.

It’s simple cause and effect, and expect to see a lot more of it from all tech companies in the future.
