Apple Now Sells DIY Repair Parts for iPhone 18 Pro and Two New Macs

This is awesome! Now instead of being forced to pay Apple $129 for a battery replacement on the 18 Pro, you can just pay $120.76 (for 7-day tool rental + parts, billed as $182.68 up front with $61.92 refunded once you return the old battery) to do it yourself.

Just make sure you return the tool rental within 7 days of receipt - otherwise the $2,000 late fee will eat into the $9 you save by disassembling and reassembling the phone yourself.

Anybody here ever actually do this?

No. This is really just to say that users can technically do replacements. The only people going through the official Apple parts programs are third-party repair shops (and, despite the sarcasm above, it's good that they have access to OEM parts).

Fantastic! I love getting a sanctioned operation to destroy or at least physically diminish my $1500+ precision device.

Easier access to parts and repair options are always nice. But think most customers will take their device to a service centre to repair it than trying to repair it themselves.

In my experience, if Apple breaks the phone during repair, they cover whats needed to repair. I'm not taking that risk to save $10
