Apple Says 'Reachability' Feature Coming to iPhone Duo Later This Year

how about a feature that hides the dock so you can get more screen ?

Ehhhh...okay? Am I the only one who thought this would be 100% already implemented? I have small hands and use this a lot. Really sad to hear its not supported from the start.

Apple plans to add Reachability support to the iPhone Duo in a software update coming later this year, according to WIRED's Julian Chokkattu. The feature will presumably be available on both the inner and outer displays, but the article did not say.

Reachability is an accessibility setting that allows you to swipe down on the bottom edge of the screen to lower the top half of the interface so that controls are easier to reach with one hand.

Reachability on the inner display? Will people really be able to hold a Duo with one hand as Apple showed us?

Reachability was the first huge tell that iPhones had gotten too large to operate comfortably in one hand.

I get that usage has evolved since then, but the original design Steve Jobs unveilied was designed so the whole screen could be reached within the radius of an average person’s thumb movement. I’ve made my peace with the size of my 15 Pro, but I won’t pretend it’s anything but awkward to balance the thing on a little pinkie “shelf” while operating one-handed.

It’s simply not ready. This product has promise, iterations down the line, but it is completely half-baked in execution this time around.

The software (3rd party devs primarily) is not ready, and here is another example in this very article from Apple’s side.

The hardware is lacking so much. So many compromises and production issues just so they could ship it finally.

That fragile inner screen that fingernails will scratch and that not-so-hidden inner camera are laughable.

There will be such screaming about defects and quality issues. Just wait.

IMO, it could also be a good idea to move the dock down and centre it both on the outer and inner display and move those network info and search buttons to the top. I mean, we had dock at the bottom of the screen on every single iPhone until now and it had worked just fine.
