More on the new iMacs

Love it or hate it, the new iMacs are a bold direction to go for Apple... According to this MacWeek article:

Apple spent 18 months researching and developing the new iMac enclosures, as the company determined "what looks best and what's going to appeal to this whole music scene," said product manager Greg Joswiak.

Despite theories by Mac users that Apple's trying to tap into the female-market, Linda McNulty (Apple's director of product marketing) denied that in the same article.

Of interesting note: Because the patterns are injected into the molding, McNulty said, the new iMacs have qualities of depth and transparency that are not apparent from photographs. She described Flower Power as a "layering and range of colors" rather than simply replicating flowers.
