That's the worst price cut I've seen this year. You might want to correct that.

The iPad 1 weighs four times a Kindle 4, so... not so much.
The Kindle is nice and light, and the smaller screen helps that, it’s true. However, for that one purpose (pure portability even if functionality is greatly lost), get an e-ink Kindle for even cheaper, and with much longer battery life. If your needs are greater than that, then you give up so much with a Fire that weight alone will not make it worth it.

I see a reason for the e-ink Kindles to exist (weight and bright-sunlight outdoorsmen/readers especially) but not so much reason for the Fire to exist. From a consumer-value perspective.

Or a perfectly good iPad 1 for $279! Compare what an iPad 1 can do for you (and how well it can do it) vs. a sluggish, small-screen $200 Kindle Fire with no great apps! The iPad 1 is even a better Kindle reader than the Kindle.
