'iPad Mini' Physical Mockup Surfaces Again...in Black

by

Nowhereelse.fr shares some new photos of an "iPad mini" that appeared on Chinese site Bolopad.

Despite reports from other sites indicating that is likely to be an actual iPad mini, it is clearly a physical mockup and is simply the black version of a white mockup that appeared last week.

The mockup is consistent with leaked case designs and other mockups, pointing to a somewhat rounded case as opposed to the tapered design seen in the iPad. The design also includes Apple's new Lightning connector and a rear-facing camera.

Apple is expected to introduce the iPad mini at a media event sometime in October.

They're not the only ones, which is why I decided to post it at all. ;)
Same fake screen as on the white one IMO, everything is in the exact same position, the apps, even the little red update circles match, both position indicators show first of four homescreens, same date on the calendar... ;)

That said, I'm still hoping these mockups are pointing to the real thing!

I'm not going to get one, I like the 10" one, but it sure looks nice. This puts the iPod touch in a weird spot. This iPad should be priced similarly, making the iPod seem grossly expensive.

I really do prefer the form factor of the current iPad over the mini size a lot. I just found the mini size too small for most of the things I do.
Well, I could say the same about all MacBooks smaller than 15" but clearly there's a market for those ultraportables. As a graphic designer/musician I find them lacking in resources and screen real estate, but that's just me. As small as the iPad is, it's a tad heavy for its size, and you can't grip it by the edges and hold it securely in one hand unless you're actor Michael Gambon. So I can see a market for an 'iPad Air', so to speak. A super light and cheap (for Apple) one that you have no excuses not to bring everywhere.

I have gotten very tired of these stories.

I do want the device, though, should it ever actually surface.

The proportions of the bezel are completely crazy. Calling BS on this one.

Gruber (http://daringfireball.net/2012/08/ipad_mini_even_througher) explains a theory for the bezel proportions.
