sprint logoSprint today became the last of the three major U.S. iPhone carriers to report financial results for the third quarter of 2012, revealing that the carrier sold 1.5 million iPhones for the third straight quarter.

The Sprint platform postpaid subscriber base grew for the tenth consecutive quarter, with net additions of 410,000 driven by a postpaid Nextel recapture rate of 59 percent and best ever third quarter churn. Sprint recorded approximately 1.5 million iPhone sales in the third quarter with 40 percent representing new customers. The company also surpassed 1 million LTE smartphones sold prior to the launch of iPhone 5.

The steady results for Sprint appear to be something of a disappointment for the carrier given the launch of the iPhone 5 near the end of the quarter. Earlier this week, AT&T reported a 27% increase in iPhone activations compared to the previous quarter while last week Verizon reported 15% sequential growth.

Apple will report its earnings for the third calendar quarter of 2012 at approximately 4:30 PM Eastern Time today, with a conference call to follow at 5:00 PM. MacRumors will have full coverage of Apple's announcements.

Their network performance is just not competitive in much of the country. No matter what phones you carry, customers want a network that gives decent performance.

Sprints 3G network is just so slow. Despite competitive pricing and unlimited data, their iPhone numbers are a lot lower than I expected.

I wonder how successful an official iPhone would be on T-Mobile? Wonder if it would be more successful than it is on Sprint.

Sprint 4S here and after a year with Sprint I've been pretty happy with it!!
Unlimited data is great for me!! I live in a small town with 3G and it averages about 1 mb/s down and about .7 up. That's pretty good but I've traveled around and now have seen the terrible speeds people have gotten!! In Cali I've tested it in certain areas with speedtest and it would give up and just display 0 down and like .15 down!!

The reason I did go with sprint was for their prices and unlimited data specially cuz I didn't have Internet at home but now that I do I'm probably gonna cancel and go with straight talk since I'm probably not gonna use that much data anymore!!

I hope the SoftBank does something about the data cuz I'd like sprint to compete with the big 2

1,499,498 then, cause I did the same thing.

Where I live they have terrible service, often reverting to roaming data (read: SUPER slow, like 0.09Mbps DOWN) even in the middle of town.

Still waiting on my Verizon iPhone. I'll tell you it was painful going back to my Samsung Fascinate after having that iPhone 5 for two weeks...

I still hate Apple for many of their business practices, but dang can they make a great phone! :D
