Apple Offering iTunes Credit to New Customers Who Purchased iWork, iPhoto or iMovie After September 1

by

During its September iPhone media event, Apple announced that anyone who purchased an eligible new iOS device after September 1 would be able to download iPhoto, iMovie, and the iWork suite of apps (Keynote, Pages, and Numbers) for free. Apple today began sending out emails with iTunes credits to users who purchased both new iOS devices and one or more of the now-free iOS apps prior to its September 10 announcement.

Eligible users appear to be receiving credit based on the number of apps they purchased, and the credit can be used towards the purchase of any content in the iTunes Store, including books, apps, and music.

Pages, Numbers and Keynote are normally $9.99 each in the App Store, while iMovie and iPhoto are priced at $4.99 each, which is a total savings of approximately $40 for customers who purchase a new Apple device.

Thanks Tim!

This pisses me off. First iCloud is free. Now this. Way to screw over loyal/paying customers. At least give us extra storage or something

Lol

At the time of your purchase, that was the value of the app. Now it's not worth much (and probably not selling well either).

So quit crying. Smh at people who feel entitled to EVERYTHING.

Because you can't read apparently. It's for new iOS 7 devices activated after 1st Sep.

They bought their iPhone 5c device on Wednesday. I know this because I read it. Apparently you're the one that can't read. (So calm down cowboy)

First iCloud is free.
I'm not sure what that means. The first 5GB has always been free with iCloud.

Where I'm disappointed with iCloud is I own several iDevices and 5GB isn't always enough for backups when you have more than one device. If they're worried about people stacking older unused devices to get more storage, then just give us an extra 5GB a year for 3 years with each device (that's reasonable).

How is this "screwing" you over? You've had this app for however long since you purchased it. If you'd waited until now, you'd never have had it all that time.

I've purchased all these apps myself, I think I've used pages once and numbers never. But that's fine, I chose to buy it. I'd be bummed if I got them all in the last few months but I've bought them here and there over the last few years (caved for Numbers this summer). Apple's not screwing me over by giving it away now.

It's more likely Apple's committing to getting everyone using this product and will continue to develop it. They're going to look pretty bad if they get everyone hooked and discontinue the product. They've done that occasionally (and so has other companies) and generally they end up not looking good.

I wonder why they giving Pages, Keynote, Numbers, iMovie and iPhoto, but left out GarageBand?

I think Apple needs to pay royalties for loops in GarageBand, so it still has to be paid for.

iWork and the like are still $9.99 in App Store for me in iOS 7. Why?

It's only with new iOS devices. On my iPad ; they're not free, on my iPhone 5c they are.

So much for microsoft's 'iPad doesn't come with office' ... You can now download the Apple equivalent for free, plus more. Genius!
