Where the hell is the fix for swiping back in finder?

I hope it fixes more than this. We need a fix to the slowness of finder in open / save dialogue boxes.

What lame updates. What about the other 100 issues Apple?

What a lame comment. This is only the second beta. Chances are the final release will fix a lot more bugs.

Apple SHOULD fix the problems with the MacBook Pro Retina Displays 15 inch (2012 & 2013) where the machines freezes randomly after installing Mavericks. This is CRITICAL !!!

I'm with MikHail on this. I've got a pair of 2012 rMBPs and neither has ANY issues. However, I just did a direct update. Not a 'from scratch'. On both units. They're both flying....and shutting down has speeded up to less than three seconds since Maverick update. I've never had either freeze, crash or slow down in any fashion
Workflow includes Smoke, Premier, After Effects, photoshop InDesign and Encore. FCP 7 and FCPx are still in the tool bag as are Comoressor and Motion. We also use Serato and Traktor...as well as all the usual surfing with Safari and Chrome, Spotify, Mail...and about a dozen different audio programs including Logic, Audition, ProTools with a LOT of plug ins.
I'm still blown away by the performance of these rMBPs. After 30 years of buying computers, I've found my personal favorite... Of ALL Time!
...and to us, Mavericks just made it 'that much better'

To fix in Safari:

- Double tab to zoom isn't as smooth as it was under ML, at least on some sites.
- Lots of sites keep hanging while being loaded, the blue bar starts going from left to right and stops halfway. This often happens on MacRumors Anyone else got this problem?
- Flash issues, my MacBook Air still lags on 1080p or even 720p youtube videos.

Im suer there is more, but that's what I can think of right now that really needs to be fixed.

What year is your MBA? I've got none of these issues on a 2010 Air or 2012 Air. Again, same as our rMBPs, I've noticed faster start up and shut down times, better memory management with less swapping and quick manipulation with gestures, spaces, mission control and launch pad.

I visit some ugly sites...but it seems many have been improving their code lately with HiRez displays on the market....TechCrunch, ArsTechnica...even Facebook seem much more 'quick' on Safari...on both the rMBP and MBAs. Perhaps you've got another issue. Have you updated Flash? Aren't there options other than Flash to see what you wanna see?

No beach balls here. Gmail works fine. What issues are you having with it? I've got an iCloud acct, gmail acct and an account the out my local ISP. They're all acting fine. What is the Gmail account 'problem'? Where are you experiencing beach balls? What are you doing when you get 'em? What model of Mac are you using Mavericks on?

Are you close to an Apple Store? I concur, there's something else going on. It's not a memory issue. Not a Mavericks issue. Mavericks, IMHO is the MOST stable .00 update to an OS in the history I've worked with OSx and Windows (since 3.1, pre Windows '95!). Mavericks is excellent. I've not noticed the 'quick look' problem with RAW shots though. We shoot both the 5dmk2 and 3s. I'm curious as to which RAW shots the poster mentioned are broken? Or is it RAW regardless? I'm usually uploading direct to Aperture or Bridge/Lightroom so I haven't looked at a RAW shot from the finder (direct from the CF card)

Just tell me why selecting shutdown takes twenty or more minutes on mavericks on a Corei7 machine. It just sits there and does NOTHING with a gray screen and a mouse pointer. I get impatient and just forcibly shut the darned thing off. Irritating.

Again, something's wrong. I've got a pair of core i7 rMBPs. A core i7 2013 Air and three core i7 2011 and 12 iMacs (we run a business with our Macs). None are taking 'longer' to shut down than ML, ALL are shutting down quicker. Earlier I mentioned our rMBPs have gone from 8-14 seconds to shut down to 2-3 seconds. Our iMacs, still using HDDs take 15-25 seconds to shut down. The MBA core i7 has also shaved half it's time...from 12-14 seconds to 5-7.
I've never had to force shut down any of our 11 total machines that we are running Mavs on. From a 2010 core2duo Air to a 2010 MacPro and other iMacs (i5) not mentioned above.

There is a lot more wrong with Mavericks than the bullet points listed above. I sure hope Apple fixes much much more than this. Since upgrading to OS X Mavericks, my 2012 MacBook Pro has become all but useless. It is so slow that it is basically a $2300 paperweight

Can't say this enough. Something is wrong. If this were the case the 'net, the forum, the general press and media would be up in arms. Something is goofy on your machine. It's not Mavericks

But, with Mavericks I find myself to be more frustrated than overjoyed. NOT that there are major problems. But, it has been a lackluster update FOR ME.

What has been bugging me the most is the memory management "improvements". Although many bloggers have raved about this feature, I find that my MB is no longer smooth when I'm juggling multiple applications (using 8GB RAM). It is as if everything gets a little clunky or overwhelmed. If anything, this is the opposite experience that I should be having. I do wish that this was resolved by Apple quickly. But, for some reason I sense that this issue isn't widespread. None the less, it is frustrating.

Mavericks memory management is extremely efficient and well thought out with its compression and integration with the OS. What computer and software are you using specifically causing these slow downs? Can't imagine a 2012 machine being 'ruined' by an OS update. Especially while I'm seeing valid improvements to almost four year old machines.

It does seem like some of these posters with issues are 'new' to the community :confused:

Completely false. The opposite. Easily the best release since latter SnowLeopard point updates for stability. For everything else, including gesture support and integration with the iCloud, iPad, iPhone and every other Mac you own....it's light years ahead of any other OS on the market. Including older OSx releases

Two finger left or right swipe to go back and forward crashes safari. I had to disable this in the menu. :(

Works great on all of our machines that accept gestures on the trackpad. Just tried it on two iMacs with the Magic Trackpad, my rMBP and both my wife and I's Airs. No such issue. It works smooth as silk. Even in the 2010 1.6GHz MBA with 4GB of RAM (lowest spec'ed machine tested)

I have rMBP '12 here and I haven't experienced any freezing issues at all.



Weird, I haven't noticed any of those issues on Mavericks. Although, it is a clean install of Mavericks I've done.



It isn't widespread. If it was, you'd hear more about this than the Gmail issues.

I've been using Mavericks that ate up more than 16GB of ram with zero swapping and I haven't noticed any slowdowns at all.

My workflow is most likely different than yours and its sounds like there's something more specific to your workflow that's triggering the issue.

I'd suggest filing a bug report with Apple and attach a sysdiagnose file the next time you experience the issue.



Have you tried a clean install of Mavericks?

I consider Mavericks the best OS release since one of the later updates of Snow Leopard.

I've chatted with many friends and co-workers about this and they shared the same thoughts.



No crashes here. Got any leftover plugins from previous OS installs that could be getting in the way?



Didn't WD announce that there's a major problem with their WD software for the external drives?

I'm using WD external drives and while I've never used their annoying Smartware software, I haven't experienced any issues with Mavericks.

Again, MikHailT nailed it. I'm experiencing the same. I also use Western Digital drives and they work fine as long as you don't use their silly software. I've never done that nor installed it. I've always immediately formatted new externals to Mac OSx journaled and wiped 'em clean. Perhaps that's why I'm not seeing any problems.

Good luck all. Bored watching the football game and thought I'd share my experiences with Mavericks. To me, it's an exceptionally stable and efficient OS upgrade. There will always be little bugs to squish, but that's cool. Apple's about the best at squishing them often and across everyone's system. It's still essentially an X.01 release. Give it a month, two, six....it's a win, I'd call it a grand slam!!!

Safari borked, hangs up loading sites, Periodic comp freeze on start up, email is screwy - some accts lag in connecting, OS is slower, still waiting for the fix... :confused:

Odd - many of us have no problems at all. I'm running 10.9 on three machines, all of them running like a top.

Definitely not a widespread issue. Memory Management is vastly improved in Mavericks. My 2011 MBP has a new lease of life!
