Apple Releases Safari Technology Preview 11 With Bug Fixes and Feature Tweaks

by

safaripreviewiconApple today released another update for Safari Technology Preview, the experimental browser Apple first introduced in March. Apple designed the Safari Technology Preview to test features that may be introduced into future release versions of Safari.

Safari Technology Preview release 11 includes bug fixes and updates for JavaScript, Web APIs, Apple Pay, Web Inspector, MathML, CSS, Rendering, Media, Content Blockers, and Accessibility.

As of release 8, Safari Technology Preview has supported Apple Pay in the web browser, a feature set to launch as part of macOS Sierra.

The Safari Technology Preview update is available through the Software Update mechanism in the Mac App Store to anyone who has downloaded the browser. Versions are available for developers running both macOS Sierra and OS X El Capitan. Full release notes for the update are available on the Safari Technology Preview website.

Apple's goal with Safari Technology Preview is to gather feedback from developers and users on its browser development process. Safari Technology Preview can be run side-by-side with the existing Safari browser and while aimed at developers, it does not require a developer account to download.

I am on the macOS PB. I have not noticed any major difference between this and the standard safari that comes with the PB. What if anything is different between the two?
No difference beside the name and the purple icon, that's to be expected since you're getting updated Safari builds in each Sierra beta update. This is more for regular stable macOS builds like El Cap where you won't be getting Safari updates for months at a time, while STP will continue to be updated every two weeks regardless of what macOS build you're using.

Opera is a good choice if you want to get away from Google. It's even based on the same rendering engine.
Didn't consider that browser. Why not, let's give it a try. Thanks
Depending on the reasons you might want to "get away from Google", something to keep in mind is that most of Opera has been recently sold to a Chinese consortium of sorts.

it would be convenient for me as an iphone/macbook user to switch to safari on MacOS too, but the browser is too slow to use (back and forward gesture ist way slower than chrome, it reloads often) and i really hate the lack of icons in the tabs.

besides that, it would be a nice to lower the input of data sent to google. i use most google services and dont feel so good about all the data they collect from me.

but chinese consortium sounds not better to me.
so i have to stick to chrome4life...
