Super Mario Run is Nintendo's first major attempt to crack mobile gaming and is the first of many titles planned for the platform. Driven by its iconic character, the game is expected to generate millions of dollars in revenue for the company. Engadget has posted a remarkably positive hands-on of the free runner title for anyone interested to learn more.

Super Mario Run is set to debut on the App Store on December 15 for iPhone and iPad. The game will be a free download with a $10 in-app purchase required to unlock the full content.

Aside: I'm not a huge Mario fan but I'll buy this game as an encouragement for Nintendo to put more games on iOS.

Super Mario is what games should be like on iOS.

Currently iOS is filled with half baked dough that's aimed to pick pocket iTunes user's wallets. So much trash games, trash casino rubbish, trash gems, trash be a celebrity rubbish etc on iOS. Super Mario will usher in a higher level of game quality. Let's hope more developers embrace the spirit of Shigeru Minamoto in their work as well.

Steve Jobs would have loved Nintendo coming to iOS.

Nintendo thinks about DESIGN. They experiment and try things. Sometimes they miss the mark, but sometimes, they really get it right, so right on. Nintendo markets their new ideas, and thankfully they don't let the market develop their ideas like a lot of companies do. That's what I love about Nintendo. They go with the gut.

Is anyone really excited about this? There are plenty of "run" games with overly-simplified controls available right now on the App Store... I guess I just can't get it up over something like this ESPECIALLY for $10.

Unfortunately it most probably will. Shame really, as the Wii U is a very underrated console. Lots of great Mario games on it, ironically.
The Wii U's hardware is great, but it never had the software to justify the purchase. I did buy it, and I think I regret it.

I bought it assuming that it'd get a main series 3D Mario and Zelda. Mario never came at all. The Zelda got delayed until it became a simultaneous release on both Wii U and Switch.

Running through the list of games that I got for it... Yoshi, Star Fox (Guard is vastly better than Zero, just BTW), Rayman Legends, Kirby, Pikmin, and Toad.

I tried the demos for Mario Maker, 3D Mario Land, Splatoon, and Hyrule Warriors. None of them were appealing - I didn't waste my money on the full games.

The best games I got for it were probably the Metroid Prime trilogy (just $10 - I'd already played all three when each was new, but the series is so great and $10 was such a bargin) and Fire Emblem. Kind of sad that best games on it were just downloadable virtual console titles.

I'm hopeful that Nintendo knocks it off with having two platforms (Wii U and 3DS) and puts all of their developers to work making titles for the Switch. Hopefully they won't have another console that only gets 1-2 good games per year like they had with the Wii U.
