Micro Center retail stores are offering an impressive $200 off new MacBook Air models, including custom configurations, starting today. This is by far the best deal we've seen on the new MacBook Air just released this Wednesday.
A new base model MacBook Air with a 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of SSD storage, and Intel UHD Graphics 617 is available for $999, down from Apple's regular price of $1,199. An upgraded model with 256GB of storage is available for $1,199, down from $1,399 regularly.
Micro Center says the deal is available at its retail stores only and not online, although an order can also be reserved online for in-store pickup. The official Apple Authorized Reseller has 25 locations across the United States, many of which appear to be open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Micro Center says the deal is limited to one per household, and supplies are likely extremely limited, so we recommend calling ahead if you are planning on visiting one of their stores. There's no indication when the sale ends, so act fast.

Apple today released new firmware for the AirPods Pro 2, AirPods Pro 3, and the AirPods 4. The firmware has a version number of 8B39, up from 8B34 on the AirPods Pro 3, 8B28 on the AirPods Pro 2, and 8B21 on the AirPods 4.
There is no word on what's included in the firmware, but Apple has a support document with limited notes. Most updates are limited to bug fixes and performance...
Last I read was retailers don't earn any money on Apple devices. What they earn money on is the accessories people also buy when they buy one of the Apple devices.

Price anchor high so sale prices can be immediately offered to get people buying units and, to your point, accessories.
Apple is a straight up nickel and dime operation these days. Dongles, accessories, cases...remove included things and make people buy them standalone now.
Finally MacRumors is actually reporting on MicroCenter, which I’ve been urging for years. They have excellent prices and customer service.
This is not the first time, I remember them having an article about deals on the iMac Pro just after Apple released them, $1000 off. (IIRC)

Maybe this is why the retail prices keep going up and up.. Apple perhaps just wants to price anchor higher so that retailers can offer "SALE!" prices straight away
