8MB RAM models? Not a surprise. I wouldn’t get anything under 16 and haven’t. A 256GB SSD is way too light too, though many would be okay with 512GB.

I’m really glad they don’t. I don’t need 16/512 and am more than happy with 8/256 and its price point.
I think you misunderstood what some of us want. I don't want to remove the 8/256 option but having a standard stock version with 16GB/512GB would be nice. Right now if you want 16GB on the MBP, MBA or mini you have to to custom order which really limits the choice of vendors and discounts.

Really really really wish Apple would make a "standard stock" 16/512 version of all the M1 products.

It's a shame that 16 GB is only a build-to-order option and that third party retailers like Amazon and Best Buy won't stock any M1 Macs with more than 8 GB of RAM. Hopefully that changes when Apple introduces the next generation.

What he means is that Apple should make the 16/512 an available model for retailers like Amazon or Best Buy to carry in stock, not that it should replace the 8/256 as the base model. Right now users who want 16 GB of RAM have no choice but to go through Apple as a build to order option (except for a 16/1TB build of the MBP).
