Apple Seeds First Beta of macOS Monterey 12.4 to Developers

I can honestly say that Monterey has given me more issues than even Vista did.

Apple really needs to stop this nonsense of releasing new major versions of macOS every year. The new features have been a total lacklustre year after year and bugs just keep getting worse. One major version once every two years would be more than sufficient and it would allow not only developers but Apple themselves to make everything actually work.

Now Apple can barely get rid of the teething problems by the time the new macOS is out and also software developers are in a constant battle trying to support the latest macOS. Apple would not only improve customer satisfaction but save a significant amount of money if they went with a 2-year update cycle with macOS.

So Tim if you are listening, maybe just skip the macOS update this summer and get Monterey working as well as Snow Leopard. Trust me, people don't need another Safari facelift or newly redesigned apps. Get the stuff you already have in tip-top shape and people will thank you. And so will the stockholders!

I think out of my 15 years on Mac, Monterey is the longest I've held out on updating. Looking forward to seeing how 12.4 performs and if there are any deal breaking issues like some of the previous releases.

I haven't used Mojave and Catalina, however Big Sur & Monterey have been nothing but bugs, bugs, bugs and bugs...
High Sierra was 100 times more stable.
I first approached the mac with Snow Leopard...oh how I do miss the ancient days of "it just works"

You mentioned this with 12.3b5, did you boot in safe mode to see how it operates. Any kernel panic on reboot will come up trying to send logs to Apple, did you look at the cause of the kernel panic? Do you have Safari Technology preview installed along with the new Safari with 12.4 beta? What Mac type is involved?

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! I was able to boot into safe mode, and in searching through the logs all I could find was DumpPanic as the process, but on a subsequent reboot into Safe Mode a popup window came up which showed me that Plex Media Server was the culprit. After disabling that from starting on boot my system is behaving normally now. I appreciate the assist.

I’ll be happy with continued refinements and bug fixes (I’ve recently noticed that my hot corners keep turning off, prompting a reboot; the good news is that I no longer get kernel panics like I had in December / January).

Once we receive the last version of Monterey, I don‘t plan to touch the next annual iteration with a 30-foot pole until at least the spring of 2023. How many other people on MacRumors were forced into Monterey with the purchase of a new 14” or 16” laptop?
