Fabric.

A material that soaks up sweat, dirt and liquids.

On what screwed-up planet would anyone want a phone case made of fabric?

Disgusting.
Have you tried this material? It's not a sponge. It's more akin to waxed canvas - very tightly woven, it's not soaking up anything.

These seem like they'd be quite challenging to keep clean & hygienic.

The non-porous high quality silicone Apple use for many of their cases is a superior choice from a hygiene perspective.
Would this really be much different from leather, a material people love to use for phone cases? Even looking more broadly, leather’s used for things like watchbands and steering wheels, where it’s constantly soaking up sweat and bodily grime. No one seems to mind.

It is a matter of preference. I like the Woolenex MacBook cases as they give a solid feel, not a slippery case.

Fabric can be washed and is biodegradable. Silicone can be washed but is not biodegradable. I’ll take fabric... just not this fabric cos it’s made of polyester which is made using harmful chemicals and is also not biodegradable.
Yes, fabric is usually better than silicone but not in this case [pun intended] since this product is, as you noted, made using a polyester fiber and is not biodegradable.

If someone really cared about the environment, they not only wouldn't use a case for an AirTag, but they wouldn't be using an AirTag either.

Was wondering what Woolenex is, thinking is it wool? Nope.

According to Incase, "Woolenex is a tightly knit, versatile material woven from two different thicknesses of polyester fiber. By leveraging fibers with varying diameters, we accomplish a truly intentional fabric. The result is an unrivaled balance of lightweight, durable textile with beautiful color depth."

I guess Polyesterenex wouldn't have sounded as nice. 🤣

I actually bought the key clip a couple of weeks ago in an apple store.
So far so good, it does begin to show some loose fibers tho.
