Tim Cook, Jony Ive, and Laurene Powell Jobs to Speak at Code 2022 Conference Next Month

Apple CEO Tim Cook, former Apple design chief Jony Ive, and Emerson Collective founder Laurene Powell Jobs will be among the speakers at Vox Media's Code 2022 conference at The Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles. The in-person event is set to take place on September 6-8, but it's unclear exactly when Cook, Ive, and Powell Jobs will be speaking.

The discussions will be hosted by veteran journalist Kara Swisher, who will be "grilling the biggest names in industry on everything from cryptocurrency to climate change," according to the conference's website.

In a tweet, Swisher said she brought together Cook, Ive, and Powell Jobs to discuss Apple co-founder Steve Jobs' lasting impact.

Other notable speakers include Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, Snap CEO Evan Spiegel, billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban, California governor Gavin Newsom, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, The Verge's editor-in-chief Nilay Patel, Platformer newsletter editor Casey Newton, and more.

It's worth noting that Apple is reportedly planning to hold its iPhone 14 event on September 7, which would be in the middle of the Code conference. Given that the conference is a three-day event, perhaps Cook will speak on September 6 or September 8.

Anyone who's watched the Jobs or Jobs/Gates interviews hosted by her and Mossberg know this is going to be a waste of time. Her questions were the height of stupidity and fluff.

EDIT:

The event is set to take place on September 6-8.
That might preclude an event for the iPhone on Sept 7th.

Swisher won’t be “grilling” anyone, and “cryptocurrency to climate change” is not a very diverse list.

Just a bunch of softball questions as usual.

Kara Swisher is one of the best in the industry, her interviews are great and the pivot podcast is smart but also entertaining.

Do people complaining about her interviews get that the goal of an interview is not to try to humiliate or antagonize the person being interviewed? That doesn’t make people talk, quite the contrary.

The NYT Sway podcast is filled with interesting interviews, some in which some very important people managed to dig a hole for themselves with the questions she asked. She lets some things go, others she doesn’t, there has to be a balance otherwise people would feel they are being interrogated by a prosecutor, not having a conversation, she wants people to elaborate, not give a one word answer “admitting guilt” or leave the interview. Now that the sway podcast is over I’m looking forward for what comes next.

And btw, Code is not a coding conference. It’s about tech and its impact. The name comes from the era of recode and all things digital, which she founded.
