A standalone monitor doesn't need an operating system, and it doesn't need to be nearly the cost of a comparable 27" iMac for no good reason. There was a time when Apple made good and affordable standalone monitors...

The Apple Studio Display is overpriced and over-engineered, but I love mine and there isn't really anything comparable at a significantly lower price. I still have hope that the Samsung Viewfinity S9 might be a competitor, but got tired of waiting at least on my main system.

The Apple Thunderbolt Display cost $999 from 2011 to 2016. They were never affordable monitors in the context of the broader market.

It's funny to me that people crap on this monitor for it's pricing, instead of recognizing it's virtually a "n of 1".

My only complaint with these monitors is the features - primarily that it would be nice if it accepted multiple inputs, and had a KVM switch to support input switching. This seems to be the biggest gap to me - not the pricing. ?‍♂️

The majority if not all of those people likely also don't own one and are crapping on an excellent display they never even used.
Seriously. I fell in love with mine the instant I plugged it in. Somehow despite *supposedly* being the same panel it somehow looks even better than my previous 5K iMac did. Not to mention it created a whole new world of flexibility knowing that I don't have to worry about displays anymore. I can buy any Mac I want when it's time to upgrade and keep using it.
