Popular accessory maker Nomad today announced the launch of three new products that are designed for use in vehicles. The Mount, Charge Mount, and 70W Car Charger offer charging and mounting solutions for the car.
Priced at $45, the Mount is a simple MagSafe-compatible accessory that is designed to attach to horizontal and vertical vehicle vents. It features a slim design with a polycarbonate and glass body. As this is just a mount, it does not offer in-car charging.
The $80 Charge Mount has the same design as the Mount, but it comes with a USB-C cable and an 18W USB-C Car Charger. It is able to charge an iPhone at up to 7.5W and it works with any of the MagSafe iPhones.
Nomad's $60 70W Car Charger plugs into the 12V socket in the car and offers two USB-C ports for charging iPhones and even Macs. The full 70W is available to a single device if only one USB-C port is in use, otherwise the power is split between the two devices (50W to the blue port and 20W to the other port). The Car Charger features GaN technology for a slim build, but it does not come with USB-C cables so you will need to supply your own.
iOS 26.4 was released today, and it includes a couple of new features for CarPlay: an Ambient Music widget and support for voice-based chatbot apps.
To update your iPhone 11 or newer to iOS 26.4, open the Settings app and tap on General → Software Update. CarPlay will automatically offer the new features so long as the iPhone connected to your vehicle is running iOS 26.4 or later....

Who wants to buy an overpriced 7.5W wireless charger when you can get a real MagSafe 15W charger? If you don’t have real MagSafe then you’re not going to charge much while using navigation and Bluetooth. I know the wireless pad on my Telluride X-Pro only does 7.5W while driving and it’s barely enough to keep up with my wireless CarPlay dongle.
Bit late out the gate with these doodads. Pretty much all cars 10-12 years old have USB ports. Most cars 6 years old or so have Apple CarPlay. But I guess they might come in handy in my '69 Camaro on Car Club nights at Superdawg!
Vent attachment mounts are useful for lighter phones, but don’t support heavier ones adequately; they’re also flawed in their design because during winter months, heat comes out of those events, which can cause your phone to overheat and shut down during use.
Very old car? Our car from 2017 has none of this, especially back then when it was never even offered. I would say this product will be phased out eventually. But unless you consider 2017 a very old car, lots of cars can make use of this.
Yeah very old was a bit exaggerated, a older car! 😘 But the ad photo is still non-sense with a Subaru Outback 2022/2023 which has wireless charging/USB and CarPlay build-in.
