Living debt-free is great.
My values were pre-tax though, so after taxes it would be ~ $1000 median and ~ $1400 average income.

Of course the quality of life in Poland has increased greatly in the last ~ 30 years or even in the last ~ 10 years.
In 2014 if someone had an iPhone he was either really well off or had wealthy parents. Right now, at least in bigger cities, every 2nd or 3rd person seems to have one. Also MacBooks are much more common today than a couple of years ago.

When I bought my MBP at the start of my uni (~ 6 years ago), I'm pretty sure I was the only one person having a MacBook in my group (~ 100 people). Near the end of the course, essentialy every 5th or 6th person had one.
I understand what you mean. 6 years ago many schools (Higher secondary) use to loan a Macbook to students. After three years of use, they could buy it for $70-100.
