Apple Releases visionOS 2.2 With Ultrawide Mac Virtual Display

Apple today released visionOS 2.2, the second major update to the visionOS 2 operating system that came out in September. visionOS 2.2 comes more than a month after the launch of visionOS 2.1.

visionOS 2 on Apple Vision Pro Feature
visionOS 2.2 can be downloaded on all Vision Pro headsets by navigating to the Settings app, selecting the General section, and choosing the Software Update option.

To install an update, the Vision Pro headset needs to be removed, and there is a software progress bar available on the front EyeSight display.

visionOS 2.2 adds new wide and ultrawide aspect ratios to the Mac Virtual Display feature, so you can have more workspace when using the Vision Pro as a display for your Mac. Apple says that the ultrawide setting is the equivalent of two 5K monitors side by side.

The update also includes Multiview for watching up to five MLS and MLB games at once, and it lets you view spatial photos and videos that are embedded on web pages. Apple's full release notes for the update are below.

Just a note to anyone having trouble getting the wide display to work— I believe it requires Mac OS to be updated as well.

This update genuinely feels like a true 1.0 for the Vision Pro. All areas of the UI feel snappier and the Mac virtual display is night and day. Not only are the wide and ultra wide options actually very useful but the general display sharpness has really improved. I'm typing this right now using virtual display after using my Vision Pro for over a couple hours now for work... Normally I never touched virtual display for anymore more than a few minutes at a time and certainly never for any serious work.
Very good summary - 2.2 is the level of refinement we had been waiting for but I don’t complain. Given the choice to have earlier access or more refinement I’d have chosen earlier access.

Virtual display is nothing short but amazing. First time ever having not to worry about large pivot table traveling or multiple APPs on the AVP with macOS.

For me a huge benefit. New immersive content coming too.

Excellent times to be alive.

It's a real shame they didn't price the AVP 1.0 at more like $1k-1.5k
With less hardware capability and lower resolution OLED panels or lower contrast LCD panels ...

It has been analyzed that the BOM cost is north of $ 1500 ('https://www.tomsguide.com/news/apple-vision-pro-costs-dollar3500-but-could-cost-less-than-half-that-to-make') - you surely don't expect Apple to deliver the free of charge update and the HW for the BOM cost - let alone the demo and return policy and the free content they are creating - for me my maxed out AVP is aa steal for the money!

I could see folks picking one up to "just to have" for content and this type of usage (Mac monitor)
Actually I think this is not going to fly until the weight comes down significantly - for me 2 .. 3 h are o.k. but nothing beyond that - that's me of course but it is the weakest point of the AVP - I could not care less about the price - it is fantastic and a decent MBP is also north of $ 3 k

The pricing just makes it so hyper niche
Apple can live with that provided it has a stable demand for that quality. I would always rank quality over quantity.
