Luckily, some people have the option to use another NFC payment method

Though some people here insist this is a bad thing.

Just used my AMEX with Apple Pay on my phone in the hospital cafeteria about 30 mins ago. No issues.

I bought soup. It's not very good. 😔

I kind of stopped caring for using Apple Pay for in person payments once all my cards got tap to pay since I'm old school and don't care about living my entire life on the phone lifestyle
One nice thing about tap-to-pay is that the transaction does not transmit the credit card information itself. As such, it uses a special encoded data transfer that is essentially just about impossible for a hacker to access. This is even more secure than the EMV chip found on most debit and credit cards since 2013 in the USA.

For debit card purchases, I recommend running it as credit (don't enter your pin) so there is no risk of your pin being leaked.
I don’t understand why people use debut cards at retail. I pay my credit card bills more than weekly, so I don’t carry a balance, but there is too much risk giving everyone access to my bank account and fraud resolution is much harder with debit.

A friend just had debit card fraud so the bank locked him out of his accounts until they could resolve it. He couldn’t pay rent, run his business, anything.

This is why (fortunately) both my bank debit card and my credit card have the option of tap-to-pay so I can make payments without needing Apple Pay.

This! I still occasionally run into people who don't use Apple Pay because they think it might be less safe than a credit card, and I have to explain how it's actually safer (less useful data is transferred), along with being fast and convenient. These days I only take my wallet out a couple times a month.
