Samsung Shows Off Tri-Fold Smartphone

Samsung has been working on a smartphone with not just one fold, but two, and the first photos of the upcoming device surfaced today (via The Chosun Daily).

Samsung displayed the tri-fold smartphone at APEC 2025 Korea. The device is designed to transform from a ~6.5-inch smartphone into a ~10-inch tablet-style display. It will fold twice, rather than just once like the standard Galaxy Fold smartphones.

There was no opportunity for APEC attendees to try the smartphone because it was displayed in a transparent case, but The Korea Economic Daily was still able to share some details. The smartphone appears to be about 4.2mm thick when it's unfolded, and 1.2 to 1.5cm thick when folded up. Crease lines are said to be "barely noticeable."

Samsung could begin production on its tri-fold smartphone as soon as next month, and it is apparently going to be launching before the end of 2026. Samsung has yet to announce pricing, but analysts estimate that it could sell for around $2,800.

Interesting form factor, but boy people have a lower bar for ‘barely noticeable’ than me.

I’d like a foldable, but I can’t get past the creases at this point, or the plastic screens.

I wish they’d hurry up and invent folding glass.

I’ve said this ad nauseam, but here we go.

It’s always funny when people say, I don’t get why anyone would want a foldable phone. Cool…you don’t want one. But there’s a big difference between not for me and no one wants this.

Some people work almost entirely from their phones when they’re traveling or out in the field. Being able to expand your screen for multitasking, documents, video calls, or content creation isn’t a gimmick it’s a productivity boost. Others just prefer the versatility or the compact form factor when folded.

Technology doesn’t have to fit your use case to be valid. If you don’t see a reason to buy a foldable, totally fine. It’s just a stretch when people who don’t want foldables attempt to speak for everyone else.

Had to double check the date of the article.

How is it possible Huawei did this in 2024 for $2,800?

But Samsung is finally doing the same thing in 2026, also for $2,800? Somehow, Samsung is also thicker?
