Netatmo Announces HomeKit-Compatible Smart Outdoor Camera with Siren

French accessory maker Netatmo has announced an Apple HomeKit compatible Smart Outdoor Camera with Siren.

The new camera is an updated version of Netatmo's Presence Camera, which came with a large floodlight. The built-in 105 db siren this time around provides even more reason to discourage intruders onto property.

The camera also features infrared night vision, which can trigger the floodlight if it detects movement.

According to Netatmo, the camera analyzes the camera's field of view in real time, and can gauge when a person approaches the house, when a car pulls into the driveway, or if a dog is roaming around the garden.

Any of these cues will trigger an alert for the user, providing them with a "precise notification and video when an event unfolds outside their home."

The camera comes with a 4MP video sensor, 100º FoV, and 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, while the LED floodlight is dimmable and uses 12W of power. The camera requires a power supply of between 100V to 240V depending on region. The camera uses 2.4GHz Wi-Fi and comes with a Class 10 32GB micro SD card.

The Netatmo Smart Outdoor Camera without Siren is available now on Netatmo's website, and can be pre-ordered in Europe, with availablilty coming to the U.S. later in 2020 for $349.99.

I have the non-siren version. Except for the lack of other style options, it is excellent! The light is separately addressable in Homekit, and the alerts are pretty smart about knowing what it sees and allowing, for instance, animals to be ignored but humans trigger alerts. Local storage and no subscription are the best parts. Still waiting on Homekit secure video update for this model. The indoor version got Homekit Secure Video support a few months ago.

Wake me up when they get their doorbell working. Neatmo is just vaporware to me at this point.

A siren? By the way this unit looks also, I would say this product is more geared towards prisons than it is the consumer market.?

Biggest mistake, not making it solar.
Can't power anything with a siren and real-time motion AI with a small solar panel.

The number one reason why I eventually got rid of my Presence cameras is the really small field of view. 100 degrees just isn't enough to cover a driveway or a patio - and unfortunately, they've failed to improve on that with this new version.

That’s not a mistake, that’s by design. If you read the article, it mentions that “The LED floodlight is dimmable and uses 12W of power. The camera requires a power supply of between 100V to 240V...”

Also given the power draw, I don’t think a solar panel will provide very much energy long enough making a significant difference. Plus, looking at the design, where would you even mount a solar panel aside from the very top of the unit, which doesn’t allow for much space, Unless it was mounted on the back of the unit, but then I gather it would be obstructed from direct sunlight. Solar Wouldn’t work based on the design alone on this unit.

The first company to combine
- AI object identification
- in-camera buffered storage
- local subscription-free offloading of activity clips (FTP, NAS)
- doesn't crash or disconnect once per day
gets all my money.

Netatmo gets all of these right, especially the AI (essentially zero false alerts), but the price and instability of my Presense makes it tough to buy more of them.
