Apple Releases macOS Monterey 12.2 With Safari Vulnerability Fix

Wednesday January 26, 2022 10:19 am PST by Juli Clover

Apple today released macOS Monterey 12.2, the second major update to the macOS Monterey update that launched in October. macOS Monterey 12.2 comes over a month after the release of the 12.1 update, which brought SharePlay support.

macOS Monterey on MBP Feature
The ‌‌‌macOS Monterey 12.2‌‌ update can be downloaded on all eligible Macs using the Software Update section of System Preferences. Apple has also released a macOS Big Sur 11.6.3 update for those still running macOS Big Sur and macOS Catalina Security Update 2022-001 for those on Catalina.

macOS Monterey 12.2 is a bug fix update, and Apple's release notes have no information other than generic bug fix information. We don't yet have a full list of security updates, but we do know that macOS Monterey 12.2 addresses a Safari bug that could cause your recent browsing history and details about your identity to be leaked to malicious entities.

A full list of security fixes that are in the update will be available from Apple's security update support document.

RIP, MacBook Ultra

Apple today sent out invites for an experience in Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 28, and the "Pro and tell" tagline on the invitation likely means that the rumored MacBook models with touch-enabled OLED displays will stick with MacBook Pro branding instead of the once-rumored "MacBook Ultra" name. The long-rumored "iPhone Ultra" ended up being named iPhone Duo, so speculation that Apple...

And yes, I didn’t expect them to rewrite the whole app to be native within a month but rather to start the process and do it incrementally. We will know soon…

Probably in the minority her, but I still kinda wish Apple would take a year off between major OS releases. Spend the two years rewriting everything (or at least as much as possible) to be native Swift & SwiftUI code. Streamline as much as possible, and get all the OSes (macOS, iOS, iPadOS, etc.) as standardized as possible. That way, in later versions, they can add a lot new features more easily and standardized.

I thought 12.2 was bringing a fully native music app? My most anticipated software release ever, solely to fix the Apple Music bug that causes the screen to jump around your playlist every time you edit, rate or delete a song.

It is there

I don't really understand why there's so much fuzz about Safari? Like, did you all buy a $4000 M1 Max so you can watch Safari scroll at 120 Herz? Why is it so important?

It’s a big deal and very important. This is directly from Apple. 👇

It's silly to actually think TestUFO matters on whether pages scroll at 120hz or not. 120hz is enabled in 12.2 and has been since beta 1. Using testufo as a metric does not matter on apple devices especially when iphones and ipads are 120hz and testufo shows 60.
