M1 Pro

Expercom has the 14-inch M1 Pro MacBook Pro (512GB) for $1,549.00, down from $1,999.00. This is one of the best prices we've ever tracked on this model of the 2021 MacBook Pro, and given that sales have shifted to focus on the 2023 models it has been some time since we saw a solid deal on these previous generation models.

Despite being a few years old now, the 2021 MacBook Pro is still a great computer with solid performance stats, especially if you're upgrading from an Intel-based device. You can find all of the similarities and differences between the two generations in our 2021 vs. 2023 MacBook Pro Buyer's Guide.

M2 Pro

If you're looking for the latest models, Amazon has a few discounts on the 16-inch M2 Pro MacBook Pro. You can get the 512GB notebook for $2,249.00, down from $2,499.00.

The 1TB 16-inch MacBook Pro is on sale for $2,449.00, down from $2,699.00. Both of these discounts represent all-time low prices on the 2023 16-inch MacBook Pro.

I wonder why any of these vendors order so many of the absolute base models on every device? Then they have to discount them to clear inventory. I thinking especially of the single 256GB SSDs which make the machine slower in use.The 512GB SSD takes advantage of the speedier processors capability.

Shame on Apple for even offering these crippled devices.

@switz The 14/16 Pros are all 512GB+ and don't use the slower 256GB SSDs. You're thinking of the Airs
The base 14" MBP's do have slower SSDs though

https://9to5mac.com/2023/01/24/macbook-pro-ssd-performance-drop/

A quick look inside the base-level M2 Pro MacBook Pro revealed something I hadn’t expected to see – or, rather, that something I HAD expected to see was missing. Like the base level M2 MacBook Air, the base level of the latest 14″ MacBook Pro seems to feature fewer NAND chips – at a higher capacity – than the last generation. This results in SSD read and write performance that’s dramatically lower than the previous generation.

https://www.theverge.com/2023/1/24/23570010/apple-ssd-slower-m2-pro-14-inch-nand-chips

In BlackMagic’s Disk Speed Test, the 512GB SSD in Apple’s latest flagship achieved read speed scores of around 2,970 MB/s and write speed scores of around 3,150 MB/s, compared to 4,900 MB/s reads and 3,950 MB/s writes that the M1 Pro with a 512GB SSD was capable of.

That means the 2023 base model has around 39 percent slower reads and 20 percent slower writes than the one released in 2021.

That base model 14" M1 Pro is a pretty sweet deal when you consider the price-to-performance with the full-price 14" M2 Pro

Good to know about the slower performance of 14" M2 Pros compared to M1 Pros. I missed that news! I was correcting another comment wrongly implying the 14" M1 Pro having slower and smaller base SSDs which they don't.

But I see the miscommunication since this deal article is talking about both M1 Pro and M2 Pro macs
