Second-Gen Apple Studio Display Could Come in Two Sizes

Apple is developing not one but potentially two new external monitors that could potentially replace its current Apple Studio Display, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

The first model, code-named J427, is expected to launch either late this year or in early 2026, says Gurman. This display is likely to be a direct successor to Apple's Studio Display, which despite having reasonable pricing and industrial design, is now falling behind in specifications.

More interestingly, Gurman revealed that Apple is simultaneously working on a second monitor under the code name J527. While details remain scarce, this suggests Apple might be planning to offer its Studio Display in multiple size options for the first time, similar to its approach with other product lines.

On the other hand, the J527 could be intended as a replacement for the Pro Display XDR, which Gurman notes is "getting a bit long in the tooth." Apple's high-end monitor debuted alongside the Mac Pro in 2019, and it has not received an update since its launch.

The timing lines up with previous reports from display analyst Ross Young, who indicated Apple is working on a 27-inch mini-LED display potentially launching in late 2025 or 2026. Mini-LED technology would offer significantly improved contrast, brightness, and color accuracy compared to the current LCD panel.
