At $199 off, this is a match of the lowest price we've ever tracked on this model, and it's available in Space Black and Silver. This is the model that launched in the fall of 2025 as part of a refresh of the MacBook Pro lineup, featuring a 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display and 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU.

MacRumors keeps telling me about all these sales, but by gum I won’t forget their advice a couple weeks go to not buy a MBP now.

It’s funny that with all of this talk about shortages of Mac Minis and Mac Studios, and potential price increases, laptops with similar chips and storage configurations seem to be plentiful and often on sale

For clarity on this model, as I was just shopping these.

Your choice here is really between this and the 15" MBA 16/1tb, which one can get for $1350 at all the retailers, and both have the same base M5 chip/specs.

The rest of the difference is the better componentry in terms of screen tech, speakers*, ports, etc.

I went with a 15" MBA, as I found the 14" just a bit too cramped, the speakers to be great, and a fanless design is also fine and probably preferable for my particular needs.

The machine I really wish they made is a 16" MBP with this base M5 chip.

(The 16" MBP only comes with a very expensive Pro or Max chip)

Because Apple are prioritizing laptop supply, as Apple sells far more laptops than desktops.

They very much still do. Below is a breakdown of Mac sales by type from 2023. I doubt this has changed significantly. No more Mac Pro, and slightly larger sales of Mac minis, but also increased laptop sales due to the introduction of the Neo. There is absolutely no possibility that desktop Mac sales are not still completely dwarfed by MacBook sales:


I don't trust this chart at all. The redesigned Mac Mini has picked up a lot of sales for the line, so I doubt it is at 1%. The most glaring issue however is it says MBP is outselling MBA by a large margin. There is no way that can be true, even Apple themselves call the MacBook Air the best selling laptop in the world. You can buy the MBA everywhere, even Walmart sold it. MBA is the default laptop everyone goes for and anecdotally I see it everywhere from parks to book stores to flights to coffee shops to study lounges. Seeing a MBP in the wild certainly isn't rare, but it isn't common either.
