Apple Accused of 'Fraud' in iCloud Private Relay Class Action Lawsuit

Apple is facing a proposed class action lawsuit accusing it of fraud and false advertising over a security flaw in iCloud Private Relay, according to 9to5Mac.

General iCloud App Feature

The suit was filed by the Clarkson Law Firm, which accuses Apple of deceiving ‌iCloud‌+ subscribers with its marketing of Private Relay, the feature meant to shield a user's IP address and DNS records while browsing in Safari. The firm alleges Apple knew, or should have known, that its privacy claims about the feature were false and misleading at the time it sold the subscriptions.

Clarkson previously took Apple to court over the delayed rollout of personalized Siri features, a case that ended in a $250 million settlement. That deal was reached in December 2025, though the payout terms were not made public until May.

Clarkson partner Tim Giordano said Apple had built its reputation on privacy promises, and argued that ‌iCloud‌+ subscribers paid a premium for protection that failed to hold up, calling it "an outrageous violation and betrayal of consumer trust and law."

The lawsuit points to a set of WebKit issues that security researchers detailed earlier this month. The most serious ties to passkey sign-ins: a site can trigger a passkey check that gets handled by the device's operating system rather than Safari, bypassing Private Relay's proxy servers entirely, sometimes without showing any passkey prompt at all, even on a site that only claims to support them.

Two further issues, tied to DNS prefetching and the WebTransport protocol added in iOS 26, can also expose a user's real IP address or DNS servers under certain conditions. Since WebKit powers every browser on iOS, the exposure is not limited to Safari.

Apple Quietly Boosts Email Feature for iCloud+ Subscribers

Tuesday October 6, 2026 3:27 am PDT by
Yesterday we reported that Apple tripled the number of iCloud Mail aliases users can create, from three to nine. But it turns out that's not the only email-related limit Apple has raised. The company has also bumped the number of email addresses you can use per iCloud Custom Domain, from three to 10. If you subscribe to iCloud+, you can use a domain name you already own for your iCloud Mail...

Leaker Jon Prosser Pushes Back as Apple Seeks His YouTube Data

Jon Prosser is arguing that Apple's alleged trade secrets are now public, while the company seeks his YouTube revenue records, channel analytics, and third-party messages to investigate his alleged financial gain from leaks about iOS 26. In a new joint status report filed yesterday, Apple said it is still waiting for YouTube revenue reports, channel analytics, and third-party communications...

Apple screwed up big time with this. Christ almighty they're advertising privacy and security and they drop the ball with Hide My Email, and now iCloud Private Relay? They deserve to be sued. The only reason I've paid for iCloud for the last 5 years was because of ICPR. I want a refund.

If "should have known" is a legitimate legal argument, than it seems to me that our society is in serious trouble.
Standard legal terminology since you can't ever truly say what's in someone's mind. That sets the standard to a "reasonable person with similar skillset would know"...

Some Apple diehards act like admitting the company screwed up would somehow ruin their whole personality.

Instead of thinking for themselves, they’ll bend over backward to defend a trillion-dollar corporation that wouldn’t notice if they disappeared tomorrow.

There has to be a DSM-V entry for people whose self-worth is so bankrupt they lease it from a logo.

Leaking IP address should not have happened. Hopefully Apple fixes it soon. Meanwhile will be interesting to see what happens with this case.
