EU iPhone and iPad Users Could Still Face Months-Long Wait for Siri AI

ios 27 siri animationApple's upgraded Siri AI could remain unavailable in the European Union for several months yet, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman said a delay of around five months would be the "absolute best-case scenario," with European users potentially facing an even longer wait while Apple negotiates its compliance with the bloc's digital rules.

Gurman reckons Apple is withholding the upgrade to pressure the European Commission, hoping that frustrated customers will push for changes to its approach, and he compared the situation with Apple Intelligence's delayed EU rollout. Note that Siri AI is not available in the EU on iPhone or iPad, but EU users have access to it on Mac. ‌

Mark Gurman: Apple Made 'Major Mistake' With iPhone Duo Pre-Orders

Sunday October 18, 2026 7:33 am PDT by
Despite knowing that the iPhone Duo would face "severe supply constraints" due to manufacturing challenges, Apple chose to begin iPhone Duo pre-orders on Friday instead of waiting until it had more inventory ready, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. In his Power On newsletter today, he called this decision a "major mistake." "Let me cut to the chase: Apple made a major mistake here," he...

The thing is, Apple would have to allow other AI apps to have the same privileges as Apple Intelligence does. This would be a good thing imho but Apple prefers not to give users a choice.

Would I rather use Apple Intelligence than ChatGPT or Claude for said features? Yes. Do I want to be forced to use it forever? Absolutely not

I am so happy about this.
None wants this AI surveillance slop on their phones. God bless EU for this.

As a European I’m very happy about this. I don’t want and need AI forced on my phone. Especially not for useless features like image playground or response snippets in other apps.

And I’ve learned my lesson:
Don’t buy an iPhone 16 just for AI features that are supposedly coming “someday.” 😝

That’s why, as a European, there’s no need to even look at a new Apple Watch with a new Health AI app that’s supposed to be coming “soon.” 🤣
Or even the latest iPhones.

The good news:
just wait for the new 2027 models ✌️

Spoiler: Its not worth the wait. If you have Chat GPT its already FAR superior.

Edit: Except for when you want to search for a photo or email on your phone.

As an EU citizen, it just makes me sad that Apple is acting like a petty child that doesn't get its way.
Apple isn’t doing this to spite the EU. I think Apple truly believes what the EU is asking for would be terrible for Apple’s customers’ privacy. They’re also 100% correct on that front.

There’s no universe where Apple thinks “consumer pressure” is going to change EU regulators’ minds. None. EU regulators are completely unable to admit ever making a mistake. See: cookie pop ups, Crowdstrike (which, despite your protestations otherwise, would absolutely not have happened without EU meddling in Windows). They’re also completely insulated from public opinion. Apple knows this.
