HomeKit Rolling Out to IKEA's TRADFRI Smart Blinds

by

IKEA has started rolling out a HomeKit software update for its FYRTUR electric blinds, part of its TRADFRI line of smart home products.

Multiple users on Reddit have indicated receiving a new 1.10.28 firmware update for their TRADFRI gateway, which allows IKEA smart home products to work with platforms like HomeKit. The rollout appears to be starting in the United States, so users in other countries may not see the firmware update yet.

Following the firmware update, the blinds should automatically appear as tiles in the Home app across the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch. HomeKit support enables users to raise or lower the blinds using the Home app or Siri, in addition to existing support for Google Home and the IKEA Home app.

FYRTUR blinds start at $129, while the TRADFRI gateway retails for $35.

Ironically I set up HomeBridge over the winter break to solve this problem and they've been working great. I have the shades automated to open close with sunrise/sunset, works with Siri and even shows the battery level.
Apparently ikeas HomeKit implementation does not show you the battery level. So maybe keep your homebridge setup

These are great prices. Smart blinds are generally stupid expensive.

Oh... that is good to hear! The one that you have had to charge, do you use it daily by chance?
Yes the one I had to charge, I open and close the blinds about 5 times a day, as it is the blinds for my back French doors that lead out to the back garden.

the one I haven’t had to charge yet is a blind for a window, so only open and close it once a day.

What are you looking to do specifically?

For those that have these, how is the battery life? Can they be hardwired? Looking at the Ikea site but it only mentions battery and battery charger... So I am thinking not, but just wanted to confirm.
Ive had my 2 blinds since they released, and I've only had to charge one blind once. The other I don't use as much so haven't had to charge it yet. I can't remember when they were released. I think I bough them September 2019.

Great....but, those blinds come in set sizes, if your windows size differs you are out of luck.
They should have the possibility to order in the exact size you want.

And there's another problem, light bleed, if you like to sleep in the dark then these won't work, you need guide rails.
Agree they should be able to be ordered with exact sizes! Cutting them will not make them bigger, they need to offer bigger sizes too, and what about sliding glass door sizes?

What are guide rails for?
